Circus Movement & Injury Research Vision:
To lead the research that will optimize performance and health in the circus arts
Circus artists are used to being in the spotlight, but when it comes to research into their health needs as a distinct group of performing artists, they are living in the shadows. We need to better understand the relationship between circus-arts-specific movements and injuries in order to find better strategies for preventing injuries and keeping circus artists healthy. There is currently very little research on injuries in the circus arts different from dance and many sports. The goal of our research is to learn more about the types of injuries that occur with different types of circus training and how often. In addition, we are studying the biomechanics of movement in aerial arts to understand the links between movement patterns and injuries.
